Silver Siren – Amy’s Davenport Dress

I am not a natural sewist. That’s the first thing to know about me! Sewing isn’t something that comes naturally to me, so I was quite intimidated by the idea of making the Davenport Dress by Friday Pattern Company. The brand is quite new to us, but i absolutely love their designs and how size inclusive they are, so I decided to pull my socks up and give it a go. You can’t own two haberdashery’s and not be sewing on the weekends!

I knew I had to use some of our gorgeous Lewis and Irene fabric for this dress. I absolutely love their designs, and it’s lovely to be able to show how great it is for dressmaking as well as quilting and other crafts, because I don’t think it gets enough love in the dressmaking community!
The Davenport pattern was super easy to follow – the little booklet you get is really well designed and even shows how to place your pattern pieces to get the most out of your fabric when cutting. I did watch the really helpful YouTube tutorial to help me through the ‘burrito method’ and they made it so easy to follow along.
I wouldn’t hesitate to give another pattern a go, and I’m already thinking of hacks to make the davenport a bit shorter, and maybe try a shorter puff sleeve – I’m probably running before I can walk but hey ho!
If I can complete this pattern with a gorgeous fabric, then anyone can – and everyone should try!
